Info 1
Info Info The tornado touched down 3.4 miles (5.5 km) southwest of Quapaw, removing shingles from a ranch home, damaging a nearby barn, and removing siding from a mobile home. Another barn was destroyed before the tornado moved into the city, where it caused severe damage to several metal buildings, including the fire station, and numerous homes, removing the roofs from many of both. Several other buildings in town were completely destroyed, and numerous vehicles were damaged by falling buildings or flying debris. Next, the tornado damaged several more homes and outbuildings before crossing the Kansas state line and entering Baxter Springs, where it either damaged or destroyed numerous homes and businesses before moving out of town and lifting. Many trees and power poles were downed along the path. A total of 37 people were injured along the tornado path; 12 in Quapaw and 25 in Baxter Springs.
